Administration and Care of Homeopathic Remedies
No other medicines should be taken whilst under homeopathic treatment. (this includes aspirin, medicated throat pastilles, patent laxatives, gargles and inhalants and medicated non-homeopathic external applications). Present long term use of prescribed medicines can be continued as normal.
INTRODUCTORY NOTES
CARE OF REMEDIES:
Store remedies away from heat, light and strong smelling preparations The remedies can be nullified by camphor, menthol, peppermint or similar materials, Never return to the bottle any tablets which have been handled as they may contaminate the remaining stock, Obtain your remedies only from a qualified homoeopathic pharmacist or practitioner. The use of coffee should be discussed before administration of remedies as coffee can antidote some Homoeopathic substances.
ADMINISTRATION OF REMEDIES:
For tinctures, tip about a quarter of a capful into water prior to use – about 5 drops is sufficient. Never use an eyedropper to measure out the dose, When using tablets, avoid touching the remedies by shaking the required number of tablets into the cap of the bottle and putting these directly into the mouth.If dispensing from a plastic zip bag, use a clean teaspoon to take the remedy from the zipbag and place directly into your mouth. Take the remedies in a clean mouth, that is free from the effects of food, drink, tobacco or toothpaste. The best time is thirty minutes before or after meals or on awakening in the morning.
EXTERNAL USE:
Soak a dressing or compress in diluted tincture (one or two drops in a tablespoon of water) or smear ointment on the part and cover with a bandage.
INTERNAL USE:
Remedies are available as tinctures, powders and tablets. Use a few drops of tincture in a little water and sip slowly. Powders are tipped directly onto the tongue and allowed to dissolve.
Tablets are sucked slowly and not swallowed whole, If the patient cannot do this, dissolve the tablets in a little water on a clean dessertspoon and give in this way. One tablet for children and two for adults is the normal dose,but adults will sometimes take only one. For continuous medication, crush two tablets between a pair of clean spoons and dissolve in a tumbler of water. Sip slowly over an hour or two in acute cases.
